CALLING ALL RUNNERS, JOGGERS AND WALKERS
The Wellness Community of Philadelphia (TWCP) needs you!
We provide you with a comprehensive training program, designed for both veteran runners and novices, and the opportunity to participate in one of several races in Philadelphia or around the country. You ask your family, friends, and co-workers to sponsor your efforts for a great cause.
Our trainer, Shanley Rassler, has been a competitive runner for over half her life, having run cross country and track at her high school and a Division 1 college, and now participates in running races and triathlons around the country. Her first job was coaching swimming, and she has mentored and coached all types of athletes ever since. She looks forward to sharing the experience of running on a team with all of you.
Participants are encouraged to train together but can participate in the event of their choice, whether it be the Penn Relays Distance Classic on Sunday, April 18, 2010 (5K or 20K), the Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run on Sunday, May 2, 2010 (10 mile), or another event. Optional group training sessions will take place on Thursday evenings at 6:30 PM and Saturday mornings at 9:30 AM, beginning at the Art Museum steps. Shanley will also devise an individualized training program for each member.
Last year’s Strides for Hope team raised over $10,000, and several members of the team won or placed in the events. Since its inception, the program has raised over $290,000! Each team member pays a $50 registration fee and sets a goal of raising $500 on behalf of TWCP. We are mindful of the challenging economy and want you to have a realistic goal. Most people give to a charity because someone they know asks them. You can be that someone.
